Documentary Non Union
New York City
Synopsis:

Casting Jewish male actors for a short scripted documentary-style film about Jewish unity and division. The piece is being created around Tisha B’Av, a Jewish day of mourning that deals heavily with the idea of division within the Jewish people. The film explores “Achdus” — Jewish unity — not as a slogan, but as something real, complicated, and sometimes uncomfortable. The setup is simple: a group of Jewish men from very different backgrounds sit together around one shared table — Orthodox, Chassidish, Yeshivish, Modern Orthodox, Sephardi, Chabad/Lubavitch, secular, and others. Through short scripted scenes, small moments at the table bring out the labels, assumptions, distance, judgments, and responsibilities that exist between different parts of the Jewish world. The goal is not to attack any community or make anyone look bad. The goal is to honestly explore the tensions that exist between us and ask a deeper question: are we actually living like one family, or are we just saying that we are? The roles are scripted, but we’re looking for actors who can make the dialogue feel natural and real. There will be room for natural phrasing and some improv within the scene.
