82-year-old John Callahan lives the life of a recluse in the San Bernardino Mountains. One night, a stranger forces his way into John’s cabin at gunpoint. John thinks Howard, the stranger, is there to rob or kill him, possibly both. But Howard begins to gradually reveal why he’s come, transporting us to when each was a young boy all the way through adulthood, showing us who they were, what they’d eventually become and how their lives would become forever intertwined. Faced with the truth, John will have to decide his own fate if there’s any last hope at some sort of redemption.
