Jesse served with Blake’s father Michael and has never stopped trying to find out how he died. He bought the Wild Saloon specifically because he knew the Matchstick Gang used it for their dealings, and when Blake walks in one night with the same mission and the same grief, he recognizes immediately who she is. He recruits her, gives her the stage name “Flame,” and becomes the quiet architect behind her cover—feeding her intelligence, managing her safety as best he can, and carrying the weight of a debt to a dead man he can finally begin to repay. Jesse is world-weary and principled, a man who has been patient for a very long time. His relationship with Blake is not paternal exactly—it is the bond between two people hunting the same ghost.
