About the Job
Parent character. Actors of all backgrounds are encouraged to submit; however, for story and realism purposes, seeking an actor who reads as racially ambiguous and does NOT read as white on screen. Elena is a capable but deeply exhausted single mother. She loves her children deeply but is currently unable to meet all their needs. She works and tries to maintain normalcy, but is using alcohol and marijuana to cope with the overwhelming pressure of her life. She is defensive when stressed and feels threatened by the system, fearing her children will be taken away. This role avoids stereotypical portrayals of substance use; Elena is functional but slipping and should not appear "messy" until the final scenes.
